Acupuncture

Acupuncture is the stimulation of specific areas (“acupoints”) on the body with very fine wires. When these points are stimulated, the body responds with a complex cellular and nervous system response that involves the brain, spinal cord, and blood vessels. This causes the release of neurotransmitters—endorphins, serotonin, and other chemicals that are beneficial to the body’s normal function. The acupuncturist can affect pain control, inflammation, and more delicate biochemical processes, depending on which neurotransmitters are released. Pets tolerate treatments very well and seem to relax throughout the process. Some conditions that acupuncture can address include allergies/asthma, arthritis/joint problems, bladder/kidney issues, constipation/diarrhea, cough, disk disease, fatigue, headaches (yes, pets get headaches), knee pain/neck pain/stiffness, paralysis/numbness, shoulder pain, side effects of chemotherapy, sprains and strains, stress/anxiety, and tendonitis.
